Abstract: Spring 1987 has been a most difficult season for Palestinian universities in the occupied territories, with all five universities shuttered more than once by successive military orders and culminating in violence at Birzeit University on 13 April 1987 that left one student dead, three wounded by live ammunition, and the university itself closed for four months, the longest closure in its history.
