dc.description.abstract | EU-IST Network of Excellence (NoE) IST-2004-507482 KWEB Deliverable D2.5.4 (WP2.5) Keyword list: description logics, ontology language, query language, RDF, OWL DL, OWL-E The current deliverable surveys a number of real-world use cases encountered in the course of the KnowledgeWeb project which demonstrate limitations of the Semantic Web ontology languages RDF and OWL. Approaches to overcoming these limitations are considered, including increased expressiveness of semantic languages, additional or alternative semantic models, and usability features which make ontologies easier to work with in real-world software architectures. Potential impacts of these approaches on the use cases presented here, as well as on other use cases including those identified by industrial work packages, are described. The issues raised by the use cases considered will play an important role in the future for the use of ontology languages in many applications. This deliverable builds upon the work presented in deliverables 2.5.1, 2.5.2, and 2.5.3, which presented RDF and OWL extensions for the representation of rules, queries, extended datatypes, uncertainty, and context, as well as studies on implementation and optimization issues. | en_US |
